The Central European University (CEU) is announcing a call for
applications for a one-year Master of Science (MSc) program in
Environmental Sciences and Policy for the academic year 2002-2003. The
Application Deadline is January 7, 2002.   A number of merit-based
scholarships and tuition waivers are available on a competitive basis.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

CEU is a US chartered graduate institution with teaching sites in
Hungary and Poland. It brings together students and faculty from a
diverse regional and international background in an open and liberal
academic setting. CEU now enrolls about 850 students from over 45
countries each year. The language of instruction and communication is

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy provides
interdisciplinary education promoting a broad understanding of the
intricate and diverse nature of today's challenges for improved
environmental conditions and sustainable development. The Department
currently employs seven internationally educated faculty members and
additional academic staff from diverse academic backgrounds. Our faculty
represents North America, Eastern and Western Europe.  The Department
invites at least a dozen leading environmental scientists and
policy-makers annually from around the globe to contribute to the M.Sc.
program.
Our faculty and students are involved in various research projects
oriented towards policy and regulation in the environment and how these
integrate with science and technology. The current research topics
include energy efficiency, climate change, organic agriculture,
environmental policy, environmental assessment and corporate
environmental management. The Department works on research projects
under the support of various international organisations, including the
United Nations (Environment Programme UNEP and Development Programme
UNDP), the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the
European Union (Save and Altener programs), the Global Reporting

ABOUT THE COURSE

By the end of the Master of Science program, the students master a
diverse array of subjects related to environmental sciences and policy
such as ecology, environmental economics, environmental management
systems, international environmental policy, biodiversity conservation,
energy and climate policy, agroecology, environmental health, fisheries,
forestry, waste treatment, GIS and modelling as well as risk and
environmental assessment.    The program requires the students to
complete a thesis written on a research conducted in a related field.

ABOUT OUR ALUMNI

During the first decade of its history the Department has educated
several hundreds of young scholars from over 30 countries who are now
working in academia, international organisations, governments, NGOs and
businesses around the world.  Sixty five percent of CEU's graduates have
entered professional careers after completing their course of study.
Thirty five percent have continued their studies in doctoral or other
advanced research programs, primarily in North America and Western

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

CEU welcomes applications from interested scholars and professionals
all over the world.  Applicants are required to possess a Bachelor-level
degree in an environment-related field, such as natural or social
sciences, engineering, economics, law or management. Details on CEU

The Department's admission criteria include academic and intellectual
excellence, career promise in environmental sciences or policy, and

and extra-curricular diversity of the student body. Admission is highly
competitive.  In Academic Year 2001-2002, the Department has admitted 36
students from an applicant pool of about 350.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial assistance is available on a merit basis in forms of full and
partial tuition waivers, and full and partial scholarship packages.
Each year the Department awards approximately 35 full-time equivalent
tuition waivers (in full or in part) and a smaller number of living
support packages in the forms of (i) full CEU fellowship, or (ii)

Nem vagyok a Lelegzet szerkesztoje. Egyetertek Ivannal, de nem

Sajnos, a tudomanyos ismereteket kozvetito irodalomban is lassan a
piaci szemlelet a meghatarozo. Azaz ami kijott a munkabol, azt a
leheto legnagyobb csinnadrattaval ta'lalja'k. Kiemelve, micsoda nagy
dologra sikerult rajonni, mennyire fontosra. Ez a kereskedelemben is
zavaro, a tudomanyos ismeretek kozvetiteseben pedig elkeserito.
Vegul is a tudomany tekintelyenek komoly csokkenesehez vezethet,
vezetett. Megjegyzem, ez bizony elsosorban az amerikai cikkirast es
nepszerusitest jellemzi, a marketing naluk valt mindent athatova.
Ezt nem kellene annyira megtanulnunk toluk, mert igy lassan egyre tobb
dolog valik olvashatatlanna. Lassuk a peldakat:

talaltak valami ujat, de hogy az mi, az egeszbol nem vilagos.

Vegyuk azonban figyelembe, hogy nemcsak a kornyezetvedokkel fordul

Kedves Mindenki!

Ahogy mindig, kedden este 6 órától újra Zöldindulunk a Fiksz rádióban, a 98
MHz-en. Ezúttal a műsor első felében Móra Verával készítünk telefonos interjút,
aki a zöldek között a génmanipulációs téma legkompetensebb embere. Az interjú
aktualitása szempontjából a napokban történt emberklónozás már csak hab a
tortán, hiszen a múlt héten volt egy jó kis konferencia "Géntechnológia a
mezőgazdaságban" címmel, ahol Dr. Vida Gábor és Dr. Darvas Béla mellett -
többek között - Vera is tartott előadást.

A McDonalds által újrakoronázott Szent Imrét a Móricz Zsigmond körtéren
láthatjuk, ha megfelelő szögből nézzük. A hatalmas embléma az egész teret
urallja. Akinek ez, és még egy csomó, a városképen uralkodó hirdetés feltűnt,
és ezeket le is fotózta, Franc Anderson ír fotós, aki már nyolc éve itt él
Magyarországon. Vele beszélgetünk a vizuális erőszakról.
