Hi everybody!
As of Nov. 7 1994. I posted a few BMP and GIF pictures of the Hungarian
Shield and the City of Budapest on the newsgroup alt.binaries.pictures
They are all 256 colour images and one black and white. Every picture is
uuencode-ed. The GIF's are from the Hungarian home page:
http://www.fsz.bme.hu/hungary; I also got them from there. The BMP's I
scanned.

australian english, in its syntax and semantics, is definitely a dialect
of english rather
than american. the spelling, use of prepositions, the distinction between
adverbs
and adjectives, the formulation of sentences are very distinct from that
used in
the usa. where the same word is used for different meanings in the usa
and england,
standard australian usage follows the english, not the american one.
where different
words are use to refer to the same thing, standard australian usage tends
to follow
the english one.
with the increasing americanisaton, this may no longer be true in a
generation or two.
the difference between american and englaish is rather gross. if one
reads "the guardian weekly" which has exerpts from "the guardian", "le
monde" and "the washington post",
it is easy to tell from the language by reading one or two sentences
whether the article
or review is from the american or the english.
as i said before, it seems to me that the difference is large enough to
call the two separate but related languages. that is not to say one is
superior to the other, even if
some of us prfer one and others the other.

Not at all. Simply letting folks know that the Al-Anon program is
available for those whose lives have been affected by someone else's
drinking.

It indeed looks like George Pataki won, Greg.
Who would have thought of such a sweeping Republican win two years ago?
It's a good feeling to know my campaign donation did not go to a loser.
Let's see if Pataki delivers on his promise to visit Hungary.
Just to rub it in,
Joe

Dear Steve Paredes:
I am afraid there is something wrong with your sense of humor! My irony was
certainly wasted on you. Or perhaps you have not been on the list long enough
to appreciate my lines. Imi Bokor and I don't understand each other not
because we speak different languages or highly divergent dialects of the same
language. The problem lies elsewhere.
By the way, Imi Bokor's ridiculous comment on the state of the English
language doesn't deserve serious consideration or comment.

This is very true, I'm afraid. But to explain the lack of German engagement
only with that means to simplify things to much, I think. The post-war idea
that Germany should by no means become politically active - not to mention
military activities of any kind! - abroad again after all the terrible things
Germans have committed during the 3rd Reich is still a basic principle in
political thinking in Germany East and West. I would not dare to judge, though,
whether this in the majority of people's minds is really an honest principle
or only a 'tactical' guideline to avoid strengthening anti-German feelings
abroad.

Charles comments after some gin about Chamberlain.
One only sees the problem with brevity when the responses start to come in.
The reason for requoting Chamberlain was to STRESS the point that both then
and now, many of the western politicos know in fact very little about
Central Europe, not because I was worrying about the Germans again.
That part of the Chamberlain statement represented truth than and it does
now.
