Greetings to all:
I will be in Hungary on a Fulbright lectureship during one semester of
academic year 1995-96 (I haven't decided which semester), with a joint
appointment at Kossuth Lajos Univ. in Debrecen and Bessenyi Gyorgi
Teachers' Training College in Nyireghyaza. I would be interested in
receiving information about any of the Hungarian-language summer schools
(especially the one in Debrecen), as well as information about Debrecen
itself. Also, might there be a chance for my husband and I to find work
after the Fulbright period so we could stay on a while? Can you tell me
a little about the rules for applying for work permits?
As well, I foresee a few problems that won't be easily answered by my
dictionary. I prefer to eat vegetarian, and I have some nutritional
supplements that I like to take for health reasons, so I would
appreciate being able to ask someone questions about what the words are
for these things in Hungarian.
Thank you. Please reply to:

I am trying to learn the Hungarian language in my spare time, and I
frequently need to type things up in Hungarian. I only have access to a
ULTRIX / Xwindows - based word processor. This leaves me with a few
technical questions, and I hope someone out there can answer them.
[1] Are there any fonts available for Xwindows which contain
the accented vowels used in Hungarian?
[2] Where can I obtain such fonts?
[3] In ULTRIX, must I be the root in order to install them?
[4] If I must use an ASCII-based application (e-mail, IRC, program source
code, etc.), what is the standard method of representing the accented vowels?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
-John H.
P.S. I also have a list of Hungarian Internet Services available from my
WWW page. The URL is http://www.esu.edu/~houstyj . Check it out and tell
me what you think.

For Hungarian fonts for X-Windows please contact a friend of mine, Zoltan
Peller at
If I remember well he solved this problem. Let me know how it goes.
