Intro:   Share prices were mixed in Eastern Europe this week with
the Warsaw stock market down while Prague and Budapest hit new
highs.  V-o-A's Barry Wood keeps track of the exchanges from our
bureau in Prague.

Text:   Sentiment continues to be positive in both Prague and
Budapest.  Corporate earnings are better than expected, and
economic growth is strengthening.  Further signs of western
orientation are the opening of a new oil pipeline from near
Prague to Western Germany and Hungary's admission into the Paris
based O-E-C-D.

In Prague the PX-50 index hit a 12 month high, rising nearly one
percent (or four points) to just under 499.  In Budapest the BUX
index was up three percent, hitting a new 12 month high on
Friday.  (The index gained 71 points on the week to 24 hundred
47.)  Warsaw was down.  The WIG index -- which had gained 60
percent this year -- retreated for a second straight week.  The
index was down (88-points or) one percent to 11 thousand 378.

Bucharest is now trading two days per week, but volume is low
with little change in prices.  Ljubljana registered its biggest
weekly decline of the year, falling 12 percent.  Sofia was
inactive and Bratislava was up nearly three percent.   (Signed)
