I have heard of an old tradition of naming dogs after rivers or lakes,
based on a popular belief that this would ward off the danger of
rabies. For whatever reason, in my family it was frowned upon the
custom of giving a person name to a dog. And not speaking Hungarian
should not be a problem... Csibesz (my puli) was easy to pronounce
for all his sitters: told them to think of the first syllable of
chicken and the first in baseball. Close enough for him. Elizabeth
